A Glimpse into Guirado’s Art

Guirado is renowned for his avant-garde style, blending surrealism and abstraction. After exhibiting alongside the Essentialists artists of the 70s, he later in his career formally identified the lesser-known school of intrarealism as his chosen genre. His artwork invites viewers to interpret pieces in various ways, sparking conversation and reflection. Collectors are drawn to his pieces not only for their visual appeal but also for the intellectual depth contained within each painting. This art is not for those who favor simplistic and obvious pop and street art; it requires a curious mind that understands the shadows of this world and the alternate realities of metaphysics. It is for those who wish to expand their minds and are unafraid to delve deep into the paintings, embarking on a journey of self-discovery, as each painting by Guirado offers a unique vision to the viewer. This deep connection is why collectors remain devoted to his work.

Who Collects Guirado's Art?

The collectors of Guirado’s art represent a diverse group, each bringing their unique background and preferences to their collections. Guirado defiitely speaks to fellow artistic minds with his most famous collectors being other visionaries from the world of the arts and business.

John Schlezenger, the Academy Award-winning director of Midnight Cowboy, was an early collector who purchased a couple of paintings in London in 1970 after Guirado's successful exhibition debuting his new style in Madrid. The artist, along with his muse and partner Audrey Ballard, toured Europe afterward and stopped in Audrey's hometown of London. There, they received a call informing them that a film director had heard about Guirado's groundbreaking new style and was eager to see the paintings. Audrey carried a canvas under each arm to his offices in Kensington, where she left them with his secretary for his review. That evening, he called to express his admiration for the work and decided to purchase both pieces!

Another legendary American collector was J D Salinger the prize-winning author of "Catcher in the Rye." Salinger is documented in the biography J. D. Salinger: A Life [Slawenski, Kenneth]. as becoming interested in a new free-thinking literary school called Infrarealism that originated in Mexico in 1975, similar to the art movement (and Guirado's school of vision) of Intrarealism established just under a decade earlier in Barcelona. Knowing this, it makes sense that Salinger would be fascinated by Guirado's paintings as he explored new radical thinking.
